Pregnancy requires care! Because you don’t want to be confined to a room all day, all day, you can sign up for a job in the first few months of your pregnancy. You may also want to meet with your office mates and talk about your experiences. Or you can choose to work because you like to work. But this does not take away the fact that you need to take care of your health!

According to a study published by Reuters Health’s “Obstetrics and Gynecology,” most pregnant women who choose the night shift at work are often at risk of preterm labor. The day shift poses no such hazards. So what do you do when you have to work the night shift and can’t switch to the day shift even on demand? Here are a few helpful tips to help you get through this process and stay away from any health hazards.

  • If your job requires you to sit for long hours throughout the night, make sure you have a comfortable posture. Do not sit in the same position for a long time as it will cause cramps and pain. Also, make sure that you don’t strain your back or overstretch your stomach area while sitting. Carry a cushion with you and keep it behind the seat to add comfort to your sitting position. Also, stretch your legs in 30-minute intervals. If possible, take a walk sometimes between work.

  • Health and nutrition are very important during pregnancy! When you work at night, your body expends more energy. That’s why it’s always useful to carry fresh fruit with you when you go to the office. So pack a box of nuts, almonds, your favorite fruit, glucose biscuits, and juices. Snack on it when you’re hungry. This will help keep your energy levels high. And if you finish your work fast, you may have a chance to return early.

  • Avoid wearing tight clothing at all costs. Your body should feel free and relaxed while you work. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that helps you move around easily and breathe well. You may not need it, but carry an extra pair of clothing for safety.

  • Forget your need to perform extra well during your pregnancy! When you have the baby and rejoin the business, you can develop all of your creative and management skills and prove your worth. Do your basic necessities while on night shift during your pregnancy. Also, inform your seniors about this so they don’t overload you with too much work.
