Dos and Don’ts of Buying Baby Clothes

Little Babies are the most amazing and adorable creatures in this big world. Since babies have 5 times more sensitive skin than an adult, they need to pay extra attention to every expectation for the clothing or baby products we use for them. If you are confused about what to buy for your newborn baby, there is no need to be embarrassed or worried because there are many parents just like you.

Many first-time parents confuse themselves when it comes to buying clothes for their baby. Based on my experience, I say that buying clothes for these cute little babies is a very exciting task. Based on my experience of raising 2 children, I would like to share the do’s and don’ts of buying clothes for your baby.

things to do

1. Prioritize Fabric:-

There are fabric types suitable for sensitive baby skin in the market. Always keep in mind that a baby’s skin is much more sensitive than you might think, so parents should look for a soft, smooth and skin-friendly fabric. You can feel the softness of the cloth with your hand by turning it upside down. Babies blush easily, so try to avoid hard and scratchy things, they can hurt baby’s soft skin. So cotton is the best option. Cotton fabric shrinks 10% after the first wash; Buy 1 or two sizes up from your actual baby size.

2. Comfortable Clothes Give You Happy Baby:-

Always buy a comfortable diaper for your baby. Avoid hard stains on clothes. Look for collarless or soft collar tops. Collar and patches make the fabric cute, but it doesn’t feel comfortable for the baby, it may cause rashes on the baby’s neck. You will regret after 5 minutes that you put it on your beautiful child’s body. Make sure that the fabric you bought has enough space to pass through the baby’s head; Putting a tight neck cloth on a newborn’s head can harm him in many ways.

3. Buy Clothes According to Weather:-

Always buy suitable clothes for your baby for different weather conditions. For the winter season, consider one-piece outfits that keep baby feet warm. Avoid things that will cling to the baby’s waist and make him comfortable. Do not buy jeans or trousers, even if they look trendy as they are not comfortable. For the summer season, choose open-collared cotton tops with soft shorts. Buy cloths that can protect them from heat.

4. Save:-

Don’t buy baby’s full size, always take 1 or 2 sizes bigger than actual size, this is because babies grow fast and some fabrics shrink 10% after the first wash. Some stores sell clothes cheaper when you buy them in sets, which doesn’t mean you’re getting all the clothes just for the summer. If your baby is 8 months old, buy 14-18 month old baby clothes as well. You can even sell your old used baby clothes online on various websites.

1. Avoid Choking Hazards:-

Always avoid clothes with extra buttons and zippers, your precious baby may accidentally swallow them and from time to time if there are any loose buttons and broken zippers on the diaper, straighten it or change the diaper. Buy t-shirts with open collars for the baby in summer and one-piece t-shirts without buttoned sleeves in winter.

2. Don’t Buy Expensive Fashion Clothes:-

Never buy expensive clothes for your baby, for two reasons. First, babies grow faster, so soon those expensive clothes will be worth nothing. Summer clothes are useless in winter. The second most important reason is that fashionable clothes are not comfortable for babies, patches, zippers, extra buttons and many more can irritate baby’s skin and even leave red stains on it.

3. Don’t Buy Tight Elastic:-

Try to avoid tight elastic pants, jeans and T-shirt sleeves. The tight elastic cloth can be extremely uncomfortable for the baby and even scratch the part of the body where the elastic is rubbed. Always look for shorts or pants that are slightly elastic or non-elastic. Always consider skin-friendly clothing for toddlers.

Some Tips for Parents to Consider:-

  • Buy soft colors for the newborn baby.
  • Choose fabrics that do not cause problems for the baby’s breathing.
  • If the baby is crying all the time, try to find out why, the clothes may be bothering him.
  • Do not buy tight clothing, always look for a size slightly larger than the actual baby size.
  • Choose clothes that are easy to put on and take off.
  • Baby gloves and socks should be extra soft. Take extra care of baby’s neck, hands, feet and waist.
  • If fashion appeals to you, go for it but stay in your baby’s comfort zone.
  • If there is a discount, don’t buy bulk clothes for a season, think wisely.
