Babysitting Tips: How to Get Your Newborn Baby to Sleep All Night

The most challenging time for new parents is at night. Your child usually stays up all night or only sleeps in small chunks at a time. Babysitting can be challenging for new parents, and there are some skills parents should use to stay sane. The most important skill in caring for a baby is to put him to sleep through the night so you can get some sleep. Tired parents cannot provide the best baby care.

I have three children and I had each of them sleep through the night when they were two weeks old. I was new to babies, I’m the youngest and so I didn’t have to take care of any babies. Friends and family always gave babysitting advice, and while many were just bullshit, some were right.

One suggestion I got to get my kids to sleep through the night was to put some whiskey in their bottles. This, of course, is absolutely ridiculous and I would never follow this babysitting technique…. Neither should you. This is how I got all three of my kids to sleep through the night, starting at two weeks old.

one. Have a Consistent Bedtime Schedule

Babies want schedules just like children do. It is important to them and makes them comfortable. Not all parents I know with babies who don’t sleep well have a set bedtime. An important baby care indicator is to put your bed to bed at the same time each night. If you are outside, put your baby in a quiet place and put them to sleep.

2. Have a Consistent Bedtime Routine

Again, babies require routine. If you’re giving your baby a bath every night, make sure you do it at the same time each night. If you are bathing your baby every other day, make sure you do it every other day. Always read a story to your baby before bed. This is a great display of baby care, because it not only introduces your baby to reading, but it also starts to build you a habit. It also provides a baby care routine, of course.

3. Follow a Nutrition Program

Most babies need to be fed every 2-3 hours. Now I realize that 2 or three hours is not a good night’s sleep for you or your partner and you are right. But feeding your baby consistently throughout the days shows your baby that food is always available and will begin to know when to expect it. Always make sure you feed your baby 20 minutes before bedtime.

4. Play Time Before Feeding

Babysitting is much more than taking care of your baby. It also encourages and teaches your baby. Playing with your baby about 30 minutes before the last bottle will tire your baby out and teach him coordination.

5. Putting Your Baby to Bed

Here’s the hardest babysitting advice to stick to. Putting your baby to bed can be difficult, especially if you’re a first-time parent. They will cry. It is normal for a person to cry, and many doctors believe that it is good for the cardiovascular system. Don’t go and get your baby. You show you care by trying to create a schedule. If the baby cries for more than 20 minutes, take your time and check your baby’s bottom. Swaddle him well and leave him alone and give them room. A nice and tight swaddle will make your baby feel safe.

If you follow these baby care tips while putting your baby to sleep, you and your baby should be able to sleep through the night in no time.
